Lactation Counselor
Breastfeeding Support
Breastfeeding provides essential nutrition for infants birth to one year and older. As with learning anything new, most breastfeeding mothers and babies (and dads too!) need some instruction and support during this learning period.
We are excited to offer Lactation Appointments at the Bardstown Office!
We have a high number of breastfeeding families. We will do our best to help you meet your breastfeeding goals. Any breastmilk you feed your infant is a gift of health.
We love babies and enjoy helping families learn how to breastfeed! We will help you as little or as much as you need. We provide in-office feeding evaluations for hands-on help as well as phone support for any questions you may have along your breastfeeding journey.
What can I expect during my appointment?
- You will meet with a Lactation Counselor and a Pediatrician or Nurse Practitioner
- You and your baby's vital signs will be taken
- The Lactation Consultant will observe your baby nurse and offer education and tips about breastfeeding management.
- You AND your baby will be seen and evaluated by one of our providers
- As part of our comprehensive care, the medical provider will examine baby and may do a breast exam on the parent if needed.
How should I prepare for my visit?
- Bring your baby! Hungry if possible.
- Bring any gadgets you typically use, such as a nipple shield to your appointment.
- We can help with all of the things: positioning, latching, assessing milk transfer, troubleshooting pain, ensuring adequate nutrition, discussing pumping and storing milk, etc.
What is the cost of the visit?
- Your visit will be billed to your insurance
- Because both you and your baby are considered patients, we will bill your insurance for an office visit for both you AND your baby.
- Private pay rates are available.
- Because you and your baby will both have an office visit, if you have a co-pay you may be responsible for you AND your baby's co-pay at the time of the visit.
